Relaxing and Goodbyes

The final stop for Alex and Chrissy was Seminyak Beach, a popular destination for tourists, especially Australians where Bali is only a 4 hour flight. When Alex and Chrissy arrived in Seminyak, they shopped and mastered the success of bartering with the locals. Alex and Chrissy stayed at the Seminyak Beach Resort & Spa in a room overlooking the ocean! Once again, the room did not disappoint.

That day, Alex and Chrissy got food at Ku De Ta on the beach, and watched the sunset from their hotel pool. It was a great way to start off the final stop in Bali. Seminyak beach is one of the best places in Bali to watch the sunset, and now they know why.

The next day was spent at the Body Works Spa for a massage and ultimate relaxation. This spa is specifically know for its picturesque entrance and pool just beyond the entrance.

They finished their spa experience with a cup of ginger tea and lunch and the Kynd cafe, another very pink place.

That night, Alex and Chrissy got dinner on the beach at their hotel. At first the lights went out, and then it started raining so they had to be moved inside.

Luckily the rain held off a bit the next day for their infamous day at Finns Beach Club. Alex and Chrissy spent their day laying at the pool and drinking from really long bamboo straws!

The final day in Bali was spent in the hotel room resting because it rained the entire day. The girls had their final dinner at Mexicola and wished their time in Bali was not ending! It was difficult to mentally prepare for the 36 hour travels back to the US.

All together, the final journey back to the US was a total of 41 hours. Chrissy’s bag gained 5kg to 23.5kg, whereas Alex was lucky she packed an extra suitcase because all together her final bad was 25.5 kg with an extra 8kg bag.

The layover on the way back to JFK was in Doha Qatar once again. However this time it was 10 hours long! Alex and Chrissy took advantage of Qatar airways excursions and spent 4 of those hours with a guide through the desert in southern Qatar. This experience was so surprising because they girls knew but didn’t actually know what they signed up for. They hopped into a Toyota Land Cruiser and drove about 40 minutes to a gas station. Here, their guide deflated the tires and bit and took them driving on the sand dunes. Driving in the sand dunes doesn’t mean roads, it literally means going into 4 wheel drive and sport mode to drive up and down the 60 meter tall dunes. At some points, the car felt as if it were sideways. The dunes had just had a large rain so the ride was a little bumpier, but it did allow for more traction to drive up the dunes, and less sand blowing so that the actual dunes were more visible. They stopped at the inland sea and were told that the land just over the sea was Saudi Arabia. The final stop was at a “camp” in the desert which actually felt like a luxury resort! The water was so blue and a hotel was set up in the middle of the desert.

Alex and Chrissy survived the final 14 hour flight back to NYC from Doha. Luckily, all of their suitcases, dignity, and belongings made it back to the US. They finally made it back to Chrissy’s apartment at 2am on Saturday morning. Even though the trip back was 40 hours of economy airline seats, Alex and Chrissy had the trip of a lifetime that they will never forget! When they got back, they decided they could have used another week in Bali but they will just have to go back!!
