Monkeying Around

The final country awaits! Alex and Chrissy arrived in Bali on Wednesday night and got a lift to the Udaya Resort and Spa. The streets in Bali are narrow, curvy, and filled with motorbikes that own the road. Drivers will honk the horn before they go around a curve to warn other cars or motorbikes that they are coming around the turn. On the drive to the hotel, Alex and Chrissy passed some Ramadan celebrations that were occurring in some of the outside temples.

Their room at the Udaya was a two story villa with a private pool, and potentially an upgrade from the Marina Bay Sands. When Alex and Chrissy travel, they tend to get better rooms as the trip progresses, but they didn’t know if it could get better than this. They thought they were in Room number 1. However, they quickly learned that there was no room 1 but there was a villa named Wani they they happened to have the key to. They shared a good laugh with the hotel staff when they all realized the misunderstanding.

The girls spent the first half of the day enjoying breakfast at the resort and ventured to the well known Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Ubud. The sanctuary does not keep the monkeys contained so monkeys could be strolling the streets even before entering the sanctuary. As long as you followed the rules, the monkeys did not bother you. However, Alex was screeched at once and it was terrifying. Otherwise, there were mom monkeys with their babies, friends playing around, and monkeys sitting in random spots with funny faces. Alex and Chrissy did the classic selfie, and the pictures did not disappoint. A person at the sanctuary will help you do the picture, and hold food up near the camera when a monkey is on your lap. When the monkey reaches for the food, a picture is taken that looks like a selfie!

The gals then entered into the Ubud center for lunch at Divya’s because it looked like a cool place with air conditioning. Also, there were moneys playing and running on the rooftops and across the telephone wires across the streets!

Later that afternoon, Alex and Chrissy refreshed and got a ride to the Kanto Lampo Waterfall. You walk down at least one hundred steps to get to the actual waterfall. This waterfall also happened to be the place where the current Bali tour guides are trending on social media because of how they guide people through taking epic and dramatic photos on the waterfall. Alex and Chrissy saw the tour guides and had them take their picture. Luckily, walking back up the steps was motivating because of the ice cream at the top!

That night, the girls ordered room service for dinner and slept very soundly after a long day of monkeys and waterfalls.

The next morning, Alex and Chrissy started off the day with morning yoga. The Udaya has a very picturesque studio and it was nice to move and stretch out the creepy joints from all the airplane travel. For breakfast, the girls ordered a “floating breakfast” in their pool. This felt like the epitome of luxury. This is also when Alex found her love for watermelon juice.

The girls then put on their bathing suits for their day at Cretya Ubud, a restaurant and day club overlooking rice fields. This also happens to be a new place with another famous Bali swing. To get a picture on the swing feels like a day of dress up. You walk into a dressing room and pick out what dress you want to wear for your picture. An employee then helps put you in the dress and you walk down a set of stairs to the swing, being extra careful not to trip on your 15 foot train. In retrospect, when you choose the dress color, take a look at the harness they use and try to use a color similar so it won’t stand out as much in the pictures! The swing was not as scary and Alex and Chrissy felt very strapped in and safe during the experience. They also got some more epic pictures!!

After playing dressup, the girls got a call that a hammock by the pool had opened up. Not knowing what a hammock meant; Alex and Chrissy were stunned to realize it was was ropes overhanging a ledge overlooking the rice fields and the pool. The pool at Cretya is 3 levels, you are even able to “jump at your own risk” from one level to another. Alex was feeling adventurous and did the small jump, it was exhilarating. Alex and did a ride on a goal bike through the sky which gave a unique perspective of the landscape.

That night, Alex and Chrissy explored and shopped at Ubud center and by recommendation of one of their drivers, Alex and Chrissy got dinner at Ibu Rao.

The only other thing on their Ubud bucket list was the famous Bali flower bath. So during their final Ubud breakfast, the resort created a flower bath in their Wani Villa.
