The day started off heading to the airport at 7:30am to travel from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. After checking in a dropping off bags, Alex and Chrissy saw Krispy Kreme donuts and had to get some for a snack before the place as Alex has never had them before. The airport was interesting because you first go through a spot where they check your ticket and passport and then walk through the airport food courts and shops for 10 minutes before you get to the security checkpoint. Alex got her favorite food bond lotion confiscated at the checkpoint but the krispy crème donuts made up for the sadness of that loss.
The flight on Bangkok airways was only 1 hour but included a snack, meal, and coffee/ juice so when they were finished with with enailsX ut was already land. From the sky, Chiang Mai (pronounced Shang my) looked hazy and hot. And sure enough it was already 94 degreas Fahrenheit.
A driver met us out of the baggage claim area to take us to our first destination, the Kiri hotel. As it was two early to check in at noon so Alex and Chrissy spent the time finding cafes and once again, getting massages.
Chiang Mai itself is beautiful, rich with history and monks. Alex and Chrissy found the Bear Hug Cafe that made the cutest cappuccinos because they could come with foam in the shape of a 3D bear.
Following the cafe, Alex and Chrissy tried to grab a drink drink at Max Dog Pizza but it was in the heat of the day at 100 degrees Fahrenheit and Alex could only last so long in what felt like a sauna.
The gals then decided to spend the last half hour before the 2pm check in getting a 30 minute foot massage. However with the English barrier, they ended up having to change clothes and getting a 45 minute full body massage.
Once back at the hotel, Alex needed to rest and cooled off and napped in the AC while Chrissy enjoyed the outside sunshine and UV of 6!
Before they knew it, it was time to determine what to do for dinner. The consensus was get pad Thai but the question was WHERE?
During dusk, Alex and Chrissy explored Chiang Mai but walking around a bit stumbling upon markets, live music, and gold temples with monks. They saw the Wat Inthakhin Sadue Muang with the sunset. By the time they made it to the famoua Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan (วัดพระสิงห์วรมหาวิหาร) with minutes to spare. They snatched some pictures just in time before starting the 15 minute walk back to the hotel.
The final stop was some drinks at Zoe’s in Yellow and the Lanna Square Night market for some fresh made pad thai. Alex and Chrissy are so glad they decided to wander around and happen upon some very memorable spots!
It’s an early night tonight because tomorrow is the day dedicated to visiting an elephant sanctuary!
Highlight of the day
Alex – happening upon the Wat Inthakhin Sadue Muang (วัดอินทขีลสะดือเมือง) at sunset
Chrissy – feeling the energy swalking around old town Chiang Mai
