Exploring Bangkok

After sleeping in a bed for the first time in almost two days, Alex and Chrissy woke up refreshed and ready to seize the day. They “Grabbed” a taxi to the Floral Cafe. The taxi driver enjoyed practicing his English and requested a selfie before dropping them off. From the outside, the Floral Cafe looked like a general flower shop however just up a flight of stairs was an insta worthy cafe filled with flowers and greenery overlooking Chakkraphet Road. They then strolled through the flower market; observing men and women putting together arrangements and sitting in the front of their spots waiting for customers. Alex and Chrissy felt as if they were walking through the back of the flower warehouse and saw tables of spiky fruit, different candies, and people going about their daily work.

They then made their way to the Wat Phra Kaew next to the Grand Palace, one of the most famous places in Bangkok. Chrissy was provided a very unflattering skirt to cover her knees. Mazing through numerous prangs, and chaples with hallways of Buddhas midday. The main temple was sacred and no shoes were allowed when to observing the Phra Buddha Deva Patimakorn inside. For this Chrissy got a nice piece of pink fabric to complete her ensemble.

By now, it was midday, sunny, and 95 degrees so Alex and Chrissy sat in the shade of the park outside the grand palace hydrating with a 30 baht lemon lime Gatorade. After cooling off it was time to find food and air conditioning. It was pretty easy to distinguish the more tourist places because there were doors going into places with Wi-Fi. Otherwise, people were getting food from street vendors and sitting at tables open to the outside air. They must be used to the heat to do that while eating a hot lunch.

Alex and Chrissy finally found “Uncle & Friends” and ordered glass noodles. It took a full hour to finally feel cooled off. The last excursion of the day before heading back to get ready for dinner was to find an authentic Thai massage. The place Chrissy found was as in a back alley way but the people were so friendly and after 24 hours lugging bags through the airport and an afternoon of sweating the relaxing head and shoulders message was welcomed. The masseuse used something like icey hot to relieve the shoulder tension and Alex and Chrissy walked out refreshed.

The traffic was horrendous in the car back to the hotel the hotel. The only saving grace was that the drive went down the road leading to the Grand Palace. This road was covered with gold arches with pictures of the monarchy of Thailand leading up to their residence.

That night, it was difficult to get a Grab taxi to check out the Chong Nonsi Canal Park. The one taxi that did come ended up having to “stop for gas”. The canal park was underwhelming because most of it was under construction so most of the lights were not turned on. Luckily there was a Marriot Vacation Club nearby who helped grab us a taxi to dinner. The night ended with Alex and Chrissy enjoying cocktails, bursts, and truffle pasta at Seen rooftop overlooking the city of Bangkok.

Overall Bangkok was a place that was nice to check off the list but 24 hours was more than enough and Alex and Chrissy don’t feel the need to go there ever again but they did take full advantage of all the city had to offer. #noregrets
