Alex and Chrissy have officially left the US. With Alex’s bag at a heavy 24kg and Chrissy’s a lighter 18kg, they quickly checked their bags and got through security with time to spare for mimosas and waffles to start the trip off right. They did a bunch of stretches before boarding and before they knew it, the 12 hour flight to Doha, Qatar had taken off. The flight was long and cramped, but thank’s to sleep and the meals every 3 hours, the flight went by quickly.
Landing in Qatar was stunning. As the plane descended, you could see the World Cup stadiums, the famous U shaped building, and most impressively, the water was so clear it looked as if you were seeing the Grand Canyon, but filled with water.
Because we were traveling during Ramadan, there were not many people eating or drinking in the airport. The Qatar airport itself looked very new, most likely because of recent 2022 World Cup. After grabbing a Starbucks cold brew and another 10 minute stretch session, it was time to board the second flight.
The flight to Bangkok happened to be on the biggest commercial airline in the world! It was a full two stories and as you walked it, you could see the stairs that went up to what looked like the first class/business class lounge/bar.
The food was surprisingly tasty on both flights and the middle seat of the second flight remained empty so there was more room for stretching! After a successful landing in Bangkok, Chrissy and Alex disguised as part of the Chinese tour group and weaseled their was through the shorter customs line (Alex at 5’2” was taller than the entire 50 person group). Both bags arrived safely and the Grab app was downloaded, as that is the “Uber” of Thailand. Chrissy and Alex tried to hail the wrong red car at first and after seeing someone hop in the passenger seat and kiss the driver, it was determined it was not our car. With Chrissy’s suitcase taking the front passenger side, we rode to the hotel, passing a Shell and 7 Eleven along the way. They finished the night with the most refreshing showers, the worst food, and decent drinks overlooking the Bangkok skyline.
Highlight of the day
Alex – seeing the ocean while landing in Qatar
Chrissy – being aboard the worlds largest commercial aircraft
